the birds behind me were on the site i worked at right before the big move overseas. i was very excited the day we got to go into the colony to band the chicks. i'm hoping to find something like this again this summer. wish me luck!

this is amanda and me in front of our kitchen and lounge when we worked out on the island before moving to taiwan.

for amanda.....

this is a photo of amanda and me at the northern most point of thailand. behind the sign is burma. she was complaining that i didn't have enough pictures of us up and out. i thought this was a good photo to put on my blog.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the humor with mailboxes in northern michigan? "honey, did you get the mail?" "just a minute dear, i have to dig it out!"

rhinelander, wisconsin.....

i've been doing some thinking. i think i'm going to move to rhinelander, wisconsin come this summer. life in houghton is nice...i like the location and the people..i even like all the snow, but when it comes right down to it...rhinelander is the better choice for what i need now. i need to take a couple classes at nicolet and rhinelander is much, much closer to the elementary school i'm doing my observations and hopefully eventual student teaching in. things change rather quickly with me, so you never know...but this is the potential game plan for now. not that i planned in staying in houghton very long anyway. i do really like it up here though.

as far as this summer...i've put out my resume to 8 different field jobs. all are short term for the months of june, july and part of august. i applied to several up in alaska, st. croix in the virgin islands, and maine. i've also submitted an application to a bird banding station over in vancouver, canada. this station in vancouver is solely a volunteer job, but it's a backup in case i don't find a paying job. this way i can stay fresh in ornithology plus i can get some experience banding passerines...little songbirds for you non-birdnerds out there. personally, i could handle hanging out in the virgin islands for 7 weeks this summer...couldn't you?

there's not much in the works in terms of fun and exciting things happening...just the norm. i will be going to a concert on st. patty's day down in wausau, wisconsin to see a band called flook. it's a kickass band from ireland...never thought i'd like flute music. mind you...this is rockin' flute music...not elevator style if you know what i mean.

my niece christi is having another boy. the due date is may 31st. however, she's having the baby cesarean due to having been shot in the head...she can't push out the baby. so...she can plan the birthdate two weeks ahead or behind the due date. the cool thing is that i'll be in the states this time for the birth of my second great-nephew. the name picked out is...phoenix nathaniel shaefer. personally, i like the name. jeez, i feel way too old to have 3 great nieces and nephews!!
